Nowhere in the description of this product does it warn you that it will only half function. Dell uses a special circuit in its laptop power adapters that the laptops look for and detect. If the circuit is not there, it will still power the computer, but will not charge the battery nor power the docking station.
So I tried to save a few bucks and ended up with a only partially functional adapter plus I had the pay Dell’s ransom anyway for a Dell unit. Shame on Dell for building this kind of kill switch into its products. Shame on HQRP and Amazon for selling an item without being upfront about its limitations.
I have purchased HQRP adapters before (for non-Dell laptops) and use Amazon all the time; this is my first negative review.
The real rub is that by the time I figured out what the problem was and got a real Dell adapter to confirm it I was one day past my return deadline.

I needed a replacement for the one that came with my Latitude 610, and we ordered it through my husband’s account for overnight delivery, since it was urgent. It was a great replacement…until about a day ago. Now, it doesn’t charge the battery. Not at all. Hoping I can return it, for the savings isn’t worth two weeks of “works great” followed by nothing. I think I’ll spend the money on the actual Dell one, unless I can be convinced otherwise. I am very disappointed, as I’ve never had any problems until now with anything I’ve ordered off of Amazon.

If you’re looking for a good alternative to the more expensive Dell product, this is the one for you. The pack and cord are compatible with my Latitude D630. If you’re going to have to buy a new cord once a year, you may as well save some money by buying this product over the Dell product.
