Although this generic adapter claims compatability with the Dell XPS M170 laptop among others, this particular model will not allow the computer to boot. The system claims that the adapter is not 130W, even though all the technical specs on the back of the adapter exactly match the original. The system runs fine if already started up, but it can’t start or restart unless on battery.

cheaply made product but does work.
I had similar booting problems with my first one. Laptop claimed it was not 130w and would turn off. I contacted seller and recieved a replacement power supply which boots and works fine.
The powersuply is cheaply made. the plastic feals flimsy, the cords are short, the connection between the wall cable and the box is stiff and hard to connect, while the cable connection to the laptop is loose and slips out frequently (if laptop is moving ie on your lap). I also have some concern about the production quality since I replaced the first one.
the good thing about this power suply is that it is cheap. about 1/3 the price of a new dell one. It does what it is supposed to do. (atleast the 2nd one does)
I would suggest this to anyone that wants to save money on a power adapter. I was not impressed with the quality power adapter I got with my dell anyways. The wires broke during normal use, and I don’t want to pay full price for another one that might do the same thing. (read lots of online complaints about it) So, the low quality doesn’t bother me knowing the full price item will most likely break soon too.
One suggestion if you get this item is, you will need to check it immediately and make sure it works well incase you get a bad one and need to return it. That being said, I still think it is worth it.

I wouldn’t recommend this product. The cord is EXTREMELY short and I have to use an extension cord just to use it. Also, when I plug in my laptop, the adapter doesn’t charge unless you then unplug the adapter from the wall and then plug it back in.
